# Jimny V2 — independent industrial design brief Research date: 2026-09-13. Scope: India five-door Jimny; novice owner; P2S with user-stated 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume. **Design concepts, not measured-fit accessories or a shopping list.** No CAD, models, deployment, or V1 files changed by this research. ## Decision for CAD now Develop these four visibly different mechanisms, in this order: 1. **Glovebox pull-out cassette:** a shallow wedge-faced drawer in an open skeletal cradle; straight sliding access, removable internal saddle. 2. **Sculpted eyewear sliding capsule:** a lens-shaped protective shell with a short-sliding lid that then lifts off; replaceable padded eyewear supports. 3. **Rail-docked cargo pods:** two small asymmetric pods sharing a narrow rail, not a large cargo bin or full false floor; independently slide off for use. 4. **Nested swivel access tray:** a thin bean-shaped portable case whose upper leaf swivels aside to expose a lower well. **Conditional/lowest priority:** open outside the car, after lifting out of the glovebox. It is an alternative to the cassette, not another permanent cabin installation. These choices intentionally abandon the requirement to fill four different vehicle locations. A speculative console mount near the handbrake or transfer lever is worse than two alternative glovebox concepts. No visor, grab-handle, dashboard, airbag, seat, belt, or control mounts. Do not label Gen3/FJ/JA11 models as five-door fit evidence. ## Why V1 failed The live V1 page was read successfully at https://kvm1.tail7e7b1.ts.net:8448/. It describes four single-piece open-top solids: glovebox 210 × 125 × 38, door 190 × 48 × 70, console 140 × 100 × 24, cargo 220 × 145 × 85 mm. Those were explicitly assumptions, not measurements. Changing their corner radii, adding ribs, or colouring a stripe would not change the experience: reach into another bin, lose usable volume to walls, remove everything to find the buried item. V2 must change **access, portability or configuration**, not merely surface treatment. A mechanism earns its parts only when it avoids rummaging, opens without overhead clearance, or removes a task-specific kit without unloading the rest. ## Evidence ledger — ten strongest primary URLs All accessed 2026-09-13. Manufacturer claims are not independent fit tests. Dates not explicitly given below are unknown. Exact accessory dimensions below are **published manufacturer specifications, not measurements we made**. | ID | Primary source / URL | Supporting evidence | Design consequence / limitation | |---|---|---|---| | E1 | Maruti Suzuki NEXA, India Jimny brochure, June 2024: https://www.nexaexperience.com/content/dam/msil/nexa/in/en/assets/cars/jimny/documents/NEXA-Jimny-Brochure.pdf | Explicit five-door context; describes phone/bottle storage and floor console; emphasizes intuitively operated controls. | Correct market/body-style baseline. Does **not** supply organizer-interface dimensions. PDF extractor returned abbreviated text; dimension worker has the original PDF. | | E2 | Suzuki five-door owner manual, 80TS-01E: https://www.suzukimanuals.com.au/assets/Owners-Manuals/Jimny-5dr-99011M80T01-01E-v2.pdf | Illustrated contents identify glovebox, passenger airbag, parking brake and transfer lever separately; introduction says retain manual in glovebox. | Reserve manual/document access; avoid control and safety-system interfaces. Australian/export manual, not proof of exact India trim dimensions. Public extraction was truncated; dimension worker has full manual. | | E3 | CARMATE CX502K official product page, released 2024-10-10: https://ps.carmate.co.jp/c/car/cx502k | Describes storage scarcity, removable lid, two dividers adjustable approximately every 12 mm, OEM-like surface treatment. **Explicitly says it does not fit Jimny Nomade five-door JC74W.** H146 × W243 × D260 mm; 415 g. | Strong mechanism and integration precedent, equally strong anti-fit precedent. Do not copy its between-console-and-seat mounting. Its installed footprint is too consequential for our brief. Full Japanese text was read directly where clean extraction omitted details. | | E4 | EXEA compatibility matrix, April 2026: https://www.seikosangyo.co.jp/exea/images/compati_table.pdf | Separately lists JB64W, JB74W, JC74W. EE-224 is marked compatible across them; EE-222 folding table and EE-223 headrest holder are marked incompatible with JC74W. E132JM is specifically for Nomade rear doors. | Shared appearance does not establish shared fit. Nomade evidence is useful five-door evidence but not automatic confirmation of an India car. Do not transplant old door/seat/rear-cargo assumptions. | | E5 | EXEA EE-224 manufacturer page: https://www.seikosangyo.co.jp/exea/english/sp/subpage13.php?no=87 | Soft silicone flaps ease insertion/removal; lower phone location avoids blocking drink retrieval. Product H103 × W96 × D107 mm. | Learn **separated access paths and compliant contact**, not its mounting. Smartphone and cup compatibility are item envelopes, not Jimny pocket dimensions. We are not proposing a printed dashboard cupholder. | | E6 | 3DPrintyi, Organizer Box, creator listing, released 2024-07-14: https://makerworld.com/en/models/539768-organizer-box | Actual downloadable design with lockable sliding mechanism, modular holders and inserts, assembly guide. Creator explicitly reports rail-fit issues and offers reduced rails. | Genuine FDM mechanism precedent; strong reason to print tolerance coupons first. Desktop design, not Jimny-specific, crash-safe, or automatically suitable for hot cars. Learn mechanism principles, do not redistribute/remix files without checking licence. | | E7 | Front Runner SSSJ001 Jimny drawer kit: https://frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/uk/suzuki-jimny-2018-current-drawer-kit.html | Nearly full-extension bearing slides, hold-open feature for uneven parking, removable side decks. Published 830 L × 1285 W × 376 H mm and 43.2 kg. | Access without unpacking is useful; a large permanent drawer system is the wrong scale here. Page says 2018-current, not an explicit India five-door fit confirmation. Do not inherit its steel hardware/load ratings into plastic. | | E8 | Dometic/Front Runner VACC157 five-door light-duty rear cargo shelf: https://www.dometic.com/en-us/product/suzuki-jimny-5-door-light-duty-rear-cargo-shelf-vacc157 | Explicit five-door 2023-current product. Manufacturer's search-indexed text says shelf can be removed while brackets remain, with OEM mounting points and 10 kg rating. | Useful quick-removal architecture. Mechanism details came from indexed primary text: live clean extraction confirmed product identity but omitted details, and direct HTTP returned 403. Treat detail confidence as lower; no new printed body mounting is derived from it. | | E9 | Orbitkey Nest v2: https://www.orbitkey.com/products/nest-v2 | Manufacturer says lift lid off **or** flip it open; separate top tray; movable dividers; padded storage. | Strong lesson in restrained form, low seam count and portable configuration. This is a non-automotive design reference; do not add its wireless electronics or infer a swivel mechanism from it. No dimensions used from unverified reseller listings. | | E10 | Bimbra 4x4, India interior-accessory overview: https://bimbra.in/jimny-interior-accessories-best-upgrades-for-comfort/ | Indian accessory maker calls storage a common concern and sells solutions for documents, phones, wallets and small items rolling in doors. | Local evidence that retrieval/clutter is a relevant problem, not a quantitative owner survey. Reject its generic safety/fit marketing as validation; do not adopt grab-handle/seat mounts. | ### Actual visual inspection Two manufacturer images were loaded and inspected directly, not inferred from search snippets: - **Orbitkey image:** https://www.orbitkey.com/cdn/shop/files/Nestv2-Black-3.jpg?v=1751955232&width=1200 — open rounded-oblong case, shallow front wall, padded dividers, lid holding flat items in fabric/mesh pockets, small central hinge hardware. The image shows the lid open, **not** a detached lid; detachability is documented by E9 text. Useful optical lessons: broad uninterrupted surfaces, softened perimeter, thin dark seam, task-sized compartments, and soft contact liners rather than ornamental ribs. Its deep rectangular packing strategy is not itself our final form. - **CARMATE image:** https://carmate.itembox.design/product/044/000000004484/000000004484-14-l.jpg?t=20241008140540 — rear extension blending into the existing console with a tapered skirt and dark textured surfaces; open lid and rolled cloth inside. Seat hardware and occupied floor area are visibly nearby. This is evidence of careful OEM-like integration **and** why we should not guess this mount. Five-door incompatibility is stated by E3, not inferred from the photo. ### What is genuinely known about fit Known: user has India five-door context and specified printer volume. Manufacturers distinguish three-door and five-door parts. Several real useful mechanisms exist. **Unknown:** user's model year/trim, every relevant pocket profile, glovebox opening/closed envelope, contents, retention and thermal conditions. Do not convert the CARMATE 243 × 260 footprint, EXEA cupholder dimensions, or Front Runner drawer size into a vehicle-space measurement. The following concept envelopes are independent design suggestions. No source supports any of them as drop-in. ## Shared optical and mechanical language - Broad planar chamfered shoulders flowing into selected round ends; one purposeful thumb scallop; reduced visual height through a recessed dark base. Avoid fake fasteners, repeated ribs, honeycomb decoration, military styling and oversized handles. - Different silhouettes: **wedge drawer / lens capsule / paired offset pods / kidney leaf**. A rounded rectangle is permitted as an internal packing constraint, not the repeated external identity. - Keep walls close to actual contents. Model clearance, wall thickness and external shape separately; no global scaling to make parts fit. - Low gloss dark neutral body, optional restrained colour on the **actual release part**, not a painted render-only stripe. Colour cannot compensate for generic geometry. - Replaceable contact pads/liners keep hard plastic off eyewear and reduce rattle. These are separate printable or cut-material components, not fictional cushioning in renders. - Mechanisms travel only while safely parked; lids and pods must positively close or latch. A CAD animation is not mechanical verification. ## Concept 1 — Glovebox pull-out cassette: first build **Job:** retrieve small essentials without lifting the document stack or fishing into the back of the glovebox. **Suggested closed outer envelope:** 210 W × 115 D × 32 H mm, subject to glovebox measurement. Target drawer travel about 65 mm. These are not V1 dimensions revalidated by research. **Form:** shallow wedge face with a chamfered upper brow, concave two-finger scoop and pulled-in lower edge. Behind it, an open-bottom U-shaped cradle: two side runners joined at rear and by a narrow front bridge. Do not enclose a drawer inside another complete box. Drawer interior has one long unobstructed zone and one removable shallow saddle, not a permanent three-bay grid. **Physical mechanism:** - Two opposed straight rails on cradle; matching grooves on drawer. Use short 45-degree dovetail shoulders or a simple captured ledge section rather than tiny ball-bearing imitations. - Rails run front-to-back. Start with a **separate fit coupon** spanning nominal 0.25/0.35/0.45 mm clearances per mating side; choose after testing actual material and orientation. - Positive travel stop supplied by a separate screw-retained end block or accessible replaceable stop key. Do not rely on friction to prevent accidental drawer extraction. - Deliberate release permits complete drawer removal for cleaning. The small saddle lifts vertically using a broad finger notch. - Provide a closed-position latch; avoid permanently strained thin cantilevers as the only hot-car retention method. A simple rotating printed catch on an M3 through-bolt can be prototyped before tuning a snap latch. **Why sliding is useful:** presents buried contents at the opening while remaining shallow; avoids a lid needing overhead clearance. It is a small removable cassette, not a desk drawer cabinet. **Main risk:** pulling the drawer may drag the whole cradle. A drawer detent retains drawer-to-cradle, **not cradle-to-car**. Show desktop kinematics now; in-car release requires a measured reversible retention solution wholly inside the glovebox, with no drill/screw into OEM trim or attachment to glovebox door. Leave closed latch, manual and factory service access unaffected. If proper retention cannot be achieved, make the whole cassette lift-out rather than pretending an unanchored drawer works. **CAD decomposition:** cradle, drawer, lift-out saddle, stop, latch. All major pieces open upward/base-down. Check rail overhangs, elephant-foot relief and stop engagement in actual solids. ## Concept 2 — Eyewear sliding capsule: strongest sculptural contrast **Job:** replace a bulky generic glasses case with a form that follows the owner's folded eyewear, protects lenses and opens without swinging a lid into surrounding objects. **Suggested closed envelope:** 175 L × 72 W × 48 H mm. Width/height must follow measured folded glasses plus soft lining; do not claim this fits every pair. This is low-volume, not artificially flat if that would crush eyewear. **Form:** asymmetric lens/pebble plan with clipped tail, faceted shoulders, a shallow convex lid and narrowed lower keel. Use analytic arcs/lofts and controlled fillets rather than a heavily tessellated organic blob. One visible seam follows the shoulder. Thumb pad sits at the clipped end; no external lever or visor clip. **Physical mechanism:** - Straight short slide on two parallel internal tracks; do **not** curve the tracks just because the exterior is curved. - Lid translates approximately 30 mm to align relief windows with the track tabs, then lifts off. This intentionally avoids full lid-length extension and long fiddly curved dovetails. - Closed front tongue and a positive rear catch keep lid captive until deliberate release. Relief windows are only at the open position. - Two lift-out, lined saddles support frame/temples rather than lenses. Make saddle spacing parametric; no spring that pinches glasses. Cut felt or a separately printed soft liner is required for delicate contact. - Model track lands as separate/local geometry beneath the flowing outer skin; avoid unsupported hidden channels. **Why motion is useful:** short sliding release needs little surrounding room and permits a compact protective enclosure. The lid can be set aside for cleaning rather than hanging off the car. **Placement:** loose accessory contained inside a measured closed glovebox or an existing restrained bag, not an overhead/visor/airbag mount. Door pocket use is conditional on actual lower-pocket dimensions and secure containment, never door-grip assumption. No batteries or charging electronics. **CAD decomposition:** lower shell, lid, two saddles, catch. Expect prototype iteration at curved-lid print orientation and support locations; do not promise all parts print without support before slicing. ## Concept 3 — Rail-docked cargo pods: small kits, not a cargo installation **Job:** separate a cloth/cord kit from another lightweight task kit and remove either one without tipping out the other or occupying the boot with a full tray. **Suggested assembly:** approximately 210 L × 76 W × 44 H mm; rail approximately 210 × 22 × 8 mm. Two individual pod envelopes about 96 × 68 × 38 mm, with local shoes below. Suggested only; CAD must reconcile latch/end-stop occupancy within final assembly bounds. **Form:** two unequal-looking but interface-compatible pods: one rounded triangular/wedge shoulder, the other long clipped capsule. Asymmetric thumb scoops and low, flush lids. Keep a common base interface, not a visible grid of deep slots or a full surrounding basket. **Physical mechanism:** - One narrow male dovetail rail and female slide shoes under each pod. Rail geometry is shared and replaceable; exterior pod geometry is free to vary. - A beginner-friendly starting rail profile is a 3 mm tall male head, 8 mm root and 14 mm crown, with matching 45-degree sides; female profile offset by the tested coupon clearance. Confirm orientation and dimensions in the real sketch, not just a label. - Pods load from a rail end. End stop and an accessible captive rotating keeper prevent sliding off; an index feature locates each pod. Individual removal may require moving the nearest pod first: show this honestly rather than animating pods through one another. Prefer loading from **both ends** with independent end keepers if independent access is essential. - Each pod has a slide-off flat/chamfered lid or an independently latched lift-off lid. A small kit remains closed while carried. - Rail attaches to a **removable insert board inside an already properly restrained soft cargo bag**, not guessed vehicle sheet metal, seat bolts, belt hardware or trim. If that host bag is not owned/verified, presentation is a portable tabletop organizer only until retention is resolved. **Why sliding/modularity is useful:** dock stays in the bag, specific kit comes out. Different contents can use the same shoe; no demand to replace the entire organizer. Do not claim net storage volume increases: plastic occupies volume, and rail overhead must earn easier access. **Reject:** open cargo pods loose on the floor, heavy recovery hardware, printed crash-rated tie-down claims, large false floors, and under-seat placements. Source E7 is an access precedent, not permission to scale steel load ratings into FDM. **CAD decomposition:** rail, two distinct pods, two lids, end keepers, optional lining inserts. Build at least two genuine compatible pods, not a fake duplicate with colour changes. ## Concept 4 — Nested swivel access tray: conditional alternative **Job:** a compact take-out valet for cable, small key set and card wallet; upper lightweight-item leaf moves aside to reveal a second layer without dumping its contents. **Suggested closed envelope:** 150 L × 96 W × 30 H mm; upper leaf roughly 105 × 60 mm. It is an alternative to Concept 1, not intended to share scarce glovebox space with all three other products. **Form:** bean/kidney outline, pinched waist around an off-centre pivot, scalloped entry for the lower well. The upper leaf visibly nests into the lower silhouette, with a thin recessed shadow line. Avoid stacking two rectangular bowls on a bolt. **Physical mechanism:** - Vertical M3 through-bolt pivot with washers, captive nut pocket and a broad bearing boss; through-fastening instead of an untested printed thread or fragile cantilever pin. - Separate upper leaf rotates approximately 95 degrees. Model real axial running clearance, stop tab, stop arc and the entire sweep. Washer spacing must prevent tightening the bolt from clamping the moving leaf solid. - Replaceable detent or rotating catch holds the closed state. A thin independent cover closes exposed contents for transport; do not call a shallow open upper leaf secure simply because the lower case closes. - Use broad contact surfaces and limit upper-leaf load. The pivot must remain stable when leaf is extended; inspect tipping on the desk with representative contents. **Critical footprint critique:** rotation does not create storage volume. The pivot and overlap consume space; the open sweep exceeds the closed silhouette. **Do not swivel inside an unmeasured glovebox or console. Lift the whole case out and open it on a stable surface while parked.** Demonstrate the CAD-computed open swept envelope visibly. No guessed clearance or tiny-footprint marketing based only on its closed dimensions. Keep this only if a real retrieval test beats an ordinary lift-out insert for the same contents. Otherwise replace the moving upper leaf with a lift-out leaf and label it honestly. It is the most visually dynamic option and the weakest space-efficiency bet; do not prioritize it over the cassette or capsule. **CAD decomposition:** base, upper leaf, transport cover, pivot hardware, catch/stop. The pivot is geometry and hardware, not a render-only rotation. ## Fabrication and release gates All envelopes above were chosen smaller than the user-stated bed in each axis; **actual oriented parts, brims and printer exclusions still need slicer verification**. Do not split small parts gratuitously. Baseline wall/base suggestions are 2.0–2.4 mm for mockups, with local reinforced rail/pivot sections; these are design starting points, not validated strength specifications. 1. **Appearance gate:** render closed, working-open and exploded states. Each concept must be identifiable in silhouette without colour, labels or ribs. Show true moving components and real apertures. 2. **CAD gate:** separate solids for each moving/removable part; watertight exports plus independent interference checks at closed, intermediate and full travel. Verify intended grooves/windows really are voids; mesh closure alone does not prove them. 3. **Tolerance gate:** print sliding and pivot coupons before full assemblies. Test same material/orientation as the part; do not “fix” the complete model by global scaling. Keep safety/retention separate from smooth motion. 4. **User-fit gate:** request cardboard footprint and insertion test, narrowest width/depth/taper, closed glovebox lid/latch clearance, specific glasses dimensions, and proposed cargo host. Dimensional worker's primary-source inventory should be reused, not replaced with accessory-package dimensions. 5. **Novice assembly gate:** plain part list, one hardware type where feasible, visible access to fasteners, replaceable stop/catch. No springs, motors, concealed mechanisms or tiny unsupported snap hooks as the only retention. 6. **Material gate:** PLA for removable fit mockups only, not hot parked-car use. PETG is not automatically heat-safe; creep can change slider/latch fit. ASA or another suitable material requires process/ventilation and thermal validation; printer enclosure alone does not establish safety. Avoid blanket temperature promises. 7. **Driving gate:** lightweight contents enclosed, whole assembly safely contained/retained, no obstruction to controls, occupant space, safety systems, seats or service access. A latch only restrains two printed parts relative to each other; it does not restrain the whole organizer. No crash/load certification implied. 8. **Delivery gate for implementation:** per-part STL + assembly STEP + editable parametric source, true-scale fit template with scale bar, assembly drawing and explicitly provisional fit label. Keep V1 URL alive; publish V2 additively. This research brief does not claim those artifacts exist yet. ## Research issues and boundaries Broad search intermittently returned provider errors or irrelevant marketplace/AI-generated pages; those were not used as evidence. Direct local curl recovered the V1 page after web extraction refused its private-network URL. Manufacturer product text recovered CARMATE details omitted by clean extraction. Orbitkey's initially guessed slug failed; its own product-search endpoint supplied the verified `/products/nest-v2` URL. Dometic details remain lower-confidence indexed-primary evidence as noted above. No dimensional reinstallation or CAD work was performed; the parent dimension worker already has source PDFs and a parser. **Bottom line:** build the cassette and capsule first; make cargo modularity portable and safely contained; keep the swivel an explicitly conditional alternative. Useful motion plus disciplined packing is the redesign—not four decorated bins.
